Who We Are
Moon Below the Sun is a publishing, curatorial, and community platform centered on supporting and fostering artistic connection and unity across geographies. Our mission is to look beyond genre and medium in order to focus on depth of feeling, emotional authenticity, and intentions of artistic works. We operate several projects to propel our mission: Moon Below the Suns Editions - our publishing arm for individual and collaborative works; Tunings - our interdisciplinary arts journal; and Studio Surami - our physical gathering space in Istanbul's Süleymaniye neighborhood. We are a semi-nomadic operation with roots in the United States, Türkiye, and საქართველო (Georgia).

Our Philosophy
We believe in art that reminds us of our shared impermanence and the beauty of our human flaws. Our work centers on analog expressions that breathe with organic tension: acoustic music and film shaped by the endurance of the body and the resonance of the natural world; literature that contemplates eternal wrestling with time, memory, nature, being, natural contradictions.
We are drawn to slowness, subtlety, and depth — works that unfold patiently and invite immersion rather than distraction. We value honesty, silence, long durations, and words that linger in our hearts, seeking not to entertain nor purely intellectualize, but to connect presently and emotionally. This is not spiritual performance, but an emergence into offering the most concentrated forms of our art: who are we inside? Who are we in relationship with each other, with nature, with time, with reality?
Our hope is to nurture art that transcends borders of genre and geography, opening spaces for profound connection, emotional nuance and dialogue. In a time of material worship, digital noise, intellectual factionalism, and expectations of immediacy, we aspire to create and preserve moments of stillness — publications that invite us to our bodies, to the earth, and to each other.
This is not merely curation; it is an act of preservation and devotion. We believe art can cut through the mundane, evoke sacred feeling, and remind us that to exist — and to feel deeply — is itself a timeless, shared miracle.
